Christmas drone shows for Milwaukee events
A drone show turns a tree lighting, a holiday market or a staff celebration into the thing people film and share. Here is what works in a Wisconsin December, and what to sort out first.
Holiday shows Milwaukee has already seen
The finale of the Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival flew 200 drones with festive music. In December 2025 Veterans Park hosted a free lakefront holiday drone show, with designs created by members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee. A 150-drone holiday show has also flown outside Children’s Wisconsin.
Who books a holiday show
- Business districts and shopping centers: a tree lighting or late-night shopping event that draws a crowd.
- Companies: a holiday party finale, a thank-you to staff, or a customer event.
- Hotels, venues and breweries: a signature night in the holiday calendar.
- Villages and parks departments: a free community show instead of, or alongside, fireworks.
- New Year’s Eve: a countdown that ends with the year in the sky.
Before you book a December date
- Time: design plus FAA clearance. Under four weeks out, enquire today.
- Backup date: wind and cold can stop a show. Agree a second night.
- Site: an open area under the show, kept clear of people.
- Permits: Milwaukee County parks need a filming permit for commercial drone use.
- Airspace: near Mitchell or Timmerman, air traffic control approval is needed.
- Timing: it is dark well before 5 p.m. in December, which suits family events.
Questions people ask
What can a Christmas drone show draw?
Trees, snowflakes, Santa’s sleigh, gifts unwrapping, a countdown, your town’s name or a sponsor logo. Scenes are designed for each show and set to music you choose.
Is December too cold or windy?
Shows do fly in winter, but wind and very low temperatures can stop a show on the night. Plan a backup date and ask the team how they decide.
Can we do two shows in one evening?
Often, yes, and flying more than one show at the same place within a few days can lower the rate. Ask when you enquire.
What does the crowd need?
A clear view of the sky over an open area the drones can fly above, kept clear of people. The team sets the launch area and safety zone.
